Plan the Perfect Field Trip: From Preparation to Lasting Learning
About the speaker ▾
Frances Arthur has been a professional educator for 38 years, serving in both public school and homeschool environments. She homeschooled both of her children through their graduation. For over 25 years, she has been planning amazing field trips for students and parents to such places as Washington DC, Philadelphia, Boston, Nashville, West TN/Mississippi (Civil War Studies), Kentucky/Ohio (20th Century History study), and lots of smaller places in between. In those years, students have been so well prepared for the trip in advance that there was never a disciplinary problem. The opportunity for experiential learning was too great for students to take the risk of misbehavior.
A practical, interactive 90-minute workshop designed to help homeschooling parents make field trips more enjoyable, educational, and manageable. We’ll discuss choosing worthwhile destinations, preparing children beforehand, setting clear behavioral expectations, keeping children engaged during the trip, and reinforcing what they learned afterward. We’ll also explore how everyday errands and ordinary outings can become meaningful learning experiences.
During a Field Trip Planning Lab, participants will work in small groups to plan an actual field trip—including its purpose, preparation, logistics, expectations, and follow-up. Each participant will leave with a usable trip plan, a practical checklist, and strategies for creating less stressful, more purposeful outings.
Attendees will receive a link that includes a field trip design template, lesson plan template, and suggestions list. You will also get a discount code for Field Trip Ready content.
